The dev backed himself into a corner when he caved in to the harem brigade and now the game is rather messy because of it.

No there is no issues, You can still continue the game by clicking. If it still doesn't work then use the second last save from your save history in gameplay, and start from there.

If you're using the mod it hasn't been updated yet, that usually messes with an update.

Oh please...caved? It was already a mess, with how the love interests were ordinally presented in the story. And this title for many already had the harem feel to it, so it only made sense for it to have that path choice. But it definitely still needs more work with how the relationships are being blended together, for a proper harem path to work.
But wining because you happen to dislike harems, when there is already a single path choice in this story for you, is odd.
